Right now, I'm a bit obsessed with making bone broth.
It makes me feel like Laura Ingalls Wilder.
It is slow and mindful process. It takes time. But the end result is delicious and beautiful and nourishing. The kitchen fills up with with this amazing earthy aroma of broth....if you get too close to the stove, you may end up with a chicken steam facial.
Sometimes I buy a whole chicken with the sole purpose of roasting the bones to make broth. We eat the chicken too, but my secret intention is really about creating the broth.
I usually add onion and carrots and lots of garlic. And then just boil away. I use the broth as a base for meals (like chicken and dumplings or potpie) or as a soup starter. It is so delicious.
Creating broth is a decision that feels good for my body and for my family. And the me of the future is always reminding the me of now to put some in the freezer for a time when I will need it down the road. I love it when she does that :)
